Royal Mail Customer Services

Originally established in 1516, Royal Mail Group PLC is a British postal service and courier company. The company’s subsidiary Royal Mail Group Limited operates the brands Royal Mail (letters) and Parcelforce Worldwide (parcels).

The company provides mail collection and delivery services throughout the UK. Letters and parcels are either deposited in a post or parcel boxes or collected in bulk from commercial businesses. This is then transported to the Royal Mail sorting offices.

Royal Mail owns and maintains the UK’s distinctive red pillar boxes, first introduced in 1852, many of which bear the initials of the reigning monarch. Deliveries are made at least once per day (excluding Sundays and bank holidays). Uniform charges apply to all UK destinations. Need to send something in a hurry? Royal Mail generally aims to make first-class deliveries the next business day throughout the nation.

How do I track my royal mail delivery?

You can track your parcel or letter by using your unique reference number. Please note that only letters sent by recorded delivery are eligible for tracking.

You can access the Royal Mail Tracking service online.

How long does Royal Mail take from the UK to the US?

Letters sent to the US usually take between 5-7 days to arrive. However, parcels can take up to 42 days.

Royal Mail publishes guidelines about what can and cannot be sent as well. Additionally, you can see how much it costs and how long it will take on the Royal Mail website

How do I know if my mail has been delivered?

Letters and parcels sent via recorded delivery have a unique reference number that you can use to track. This is via the Royal Mail Track and Trace service. You can use this number on the online tracking tool to see if it has been delivered.

If the item is listed as ‘delivered’ but doesn’t appear to have been, there may be an obvious reason and solution. You can call Royal Mail for advice, or consult their online support.

How long does the first-class post take in the UK?

Royal Mail aims to deliver first-class post the next working day, including Saturdays. This does, however, depend on what time you post your item. If you post it after the last collection, then it will go into the next day collection.

Also, the first-class post is not a guarantee. If you want assurance that your item will arrive the next day, you must pay for recorded delivery. In this case, you must send your item before 1 pm.

You can read more about Royal Mail First Class Delivery online.

When does mail get collected from post boxes?

The time Royal Mail collects mail from a postbox mainly depends on its location.

Visit the Royal Mail website for a guide to when final collections are scheduled at postboxes (excludes public holidays).

How do I redirect my mail?

Royal Mail Redirection makes it very easy for you to redirect your mail when you move house within the UK or abroad. The Redirection service is available for personal customers or business customers. All you need to do is set up a Royal Mail account in order to process your redirection.

You can read more information about redirection for personal customers on the Royal Mail website.

Royal Mail hasn’t delivered my package yet, what should I do?

When your parcel or letter will arrive depends on the service used to send it. Consult literature about the delivery service used to check the delivery terms. This page also provides advice on what to do if an item is late.

If your item is late and doesn’t have a tracking number, then you should phone the Royal Mail contact number for help: 0843 850 0651.
